Classification by Lift Height
Conventional lift (micro-lift) safety valves have an opening height ≤0.05d0 (where d0 is the throat diameter). They suit liquid services with modest discharge requirements.
Full-lift safety valves achieve opening height ≥0.25d0, providing maximum discharge capacity. They are ideal for gas and steam applications requiring rapid pressure relief.
Classification by Structure
Spring-loaded safety valves use spring preload to control set pressure and are the most widely used type.
